Tucson Water to host a Town Hall event to introduce the new One Water 2100 Master Plan

TUCSON, ARIZONA (Aug. 12, 2022) – Tucson Water invites all Tucsonans to a public Town Hall event designed to educate and receive feedback from residents on the innovative One Water 2100 Master Plan. The event, on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at the Tucson Convention Center serves as the kickoff to a public engagement effort for the water plan that will better secure a sustainable and resilient water future for the region.

Tucson Water is preparing a new master plan based on a nationally recognized approach to water resource management known as “One Water.” The master plan will provide guidance on how the utility can adaptively manage water resources under changing conditions. It will help guide Tucson Water’s capital infrastructure planning and conservation practices and provide information to support policy decisions. Using the One Water approach for master planning means taking into account important factors like environmental sustainability, social equity, and economic vitality.

“Public involvement is an essential aspect of the One Water 2100 Master Plan and how we ensure a sustainable water future,” said Tucson Water Director John Kmiec. “Our region continues to demonstrate leadership through this nationally recognized water management approach, which treats all water sources as equally valuable. We are excited to share how the plan’s elements will support our economy and quality of life.”

Safe and sustainable water supplies are a priority for Tucsonans. Tucson was one of the first communities in the country to reduce potable water consumption with a reclaimed system. Its residents are among the most water-efficient in the nation. The goal of the One Water approach is to build off these successes and manage water resources for long-term resilience and sustainability, while meeting both the needs of our community and the fragile Sonoran Desert ecosystem we call home.
