“Water is our most precious resource,” said Tucson Mayor Regina Romero. “One Water 2100 reflects extensive community listening to ensure that Tucsonans have safe and secure water into the future. This vision is guided by our community who are helping us create a sustainable and thriving desert city of the future. Tucsonans value every single drop of water: groundwater, surface water, stormwater, and recycled water. We have enough water to thrive but not enough to waste,” said the Mayor.

Outcomes identified in the plan demonstrate the City of Tucson and the community’s support for strategies that magnify the beneficial use of existing water supplies, which include surface water, groundwater, recycled water, and stormwater. Additionally, the community supported opportunities to implement demand strategies that expand conservation opportunities innovation, technology, and equitable solutions.

Next, Tucson’s One Water 2100 Plan will be incorporated into Plan Tucson, the City’s next generation general plan.

The development of One Water 2100 was coordinated with Tucson Resilient Together to ensure consistency and clarity around the creation of water strategies. The City will continue the effort in support of Plan Tucson.

“Coordination for the One Water 2100 Plan began during the pandemic. I want to thank our staff and the Tucson community for their commitment and contributions to this multi-year effort,” said John Kmiec, Tucson Water Director. “We have truly accomplished a collaborative process that will improve our region’s resilience and management of our most vital resource – water.”
