One Water 2100 Plan Notification from July 22, 2023

The 60-day public comment period for the draft One Water 2100 Plan recently came to a close on July 21st. Over 70 comments were submitted and City staff is currently reviewing the public input.  Mayor and Council will discuss the plan and provide initial feedback at a study session on September 6. Staff will then begin preparing the next draft of the plan for Mayor and Council. Mayor and Council’s feedback will be addressed in the final draft and presented for adoption on October 17. The materials that Mayor and Council will review can be found on here as the meeting dates approach.

“As we move into the final phases of the plan’s development, we want to thank all Tucsonans who engaged in the public process over the past year,” said John Kmiec, Director of Tucson Water. “We look forward to finalizing the plan with Mayor and Council this fall and creating an implementation roadmap based on the principles of One Water.”

Once finalized, the plan will provide guidance on how Tucson Water can best manage water resources and demand under changing conditions. It will help guide Tucson Water’s long range water resource planning, capital and financial investments, conservation practices, and provide information to support policy decisions.

Plan Tucson is the City’s next general plan update. City staff coordinated between One Water 2100 and Tucson Resilient Together to ensure consistency and clarity around the development water strategies, and now we’ll continue that effort in support of Plan Tucson. Stakeholder workshops on various subject areas, like water, will begin this fall. A reference sheet based on the One Water 2100 strategies will be used to inform those workshops.
